MOVIE RATING: 9/10
Many have heard the critics rant about the movie Doom, and the rants have been anything but friendly. However, in my opinion, the rants have been everything but fair.
Doom was set in the year 2026. The Rock is "Sarge" in the Rapid Response Technical Squad (RRTS). Their job is to eliminate the threat at Olduvai, a Mars research center for an archialogical dig, find 6 missing scientists, and bring back Olvudai Scientific Unit property. In the squad is a soldier named "John". His sister Samantha is a research engineer at Olduvai. Her job was to protect the data the company has been researching, but she is unaware of the human tests taking place. "The average human has 23 chromosomes" Samantha told Sarge at his inquizitive request of her job. "We have discovered a 'super human' containing a 24th chromosome." Something along the lines of the research have gone horribly wrong. The 24th chromosome is causing a genetic mutation, causing the victims to live on human flesh, move 5 times faster than the average human, makes them super smart, strong, and fit... causing them to heal at twice the rate of humans.
Slowly, and one by one, members of the team start getting wiped out. "Pinky", an engineer, is their contact, alerting them of danger, and where it is occuring. One of the monsters gets to Pinky, where there is a portal called "The Arch" which is the link between Earth and Mars. It's the means of transportation between the two planets. One of the monsters gets through the arch and reaches Earth. This is where I'll have to cut you off... you'll have to see this movie to learn how it ends. I can gaurantee you, however, that it is worth your time.
The much anticipated "first-person shooter" segment is a short 2-minutes, but you get so drawn in, it seems like a good 30 minutes. The detail in Doom is one to be matched... it seems to be that most movies will fail if they don't meet the standards that Doom has set.
